Project: Who?Radio documentary (UK) Role: narrator
Bigger on the Inside BBC Press release: As BBC One prepares to launch an all-new Doctor Who for the 21st century, BBC Radio 2 examines the continuing fascination with the famous time traveller. In this two-part series, the network goes exclusively behind the scenes of the new BBC Television drama adventure to discover how Doctor Who has been “recreated” by acclaimed writer and producer Russell T Davies. Project – Who? reveals how the word “buffalo” can save the world, why vinegar could save your life and why, though the Doctor is from another planet, he has a Northern accent. It also features newly recorded interviews with the cast and creative team behind Doctor Who. With exclusive excerpts from the new series, starring Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper, the programmes examine how the format of the show has been developed and shaped for a new audience, how the character of the Doctor was cast, and how the series will be launched and marketed around the globe. The opening programme, Bigger On The Inside, takes listeners back (without the aid of a Tardis) to September 2003, when Lorraine Heggessey, Controller of BBC One, announced that a new series of Doctor Who was being planned with Russell T Davies at the helm. The programme considers how the creator of Queer As Folk and The Second Coming approached the task of recreating one of the most popular and enduring formats on television. The new series of Doctor Who begins on BBC One in late March and is complemented by BBC Three’s Doctor Who Confidential – an exclusive, behind-the-scenes series, narrated by Simon Pegg – which follows each new episode. BBC Two celebrates the return of the Tardis with a Doctor Who Night special. Fans of the time traveller can visit the official website at bbc.co.uk/doctorwho and find more information on Project – Who? at bbc.co.uk/radio2, where they can also Listen Again to the two documentaries. Reverse the Polarity BBC Press release: Doctor Who is back in his Tardis and has a new assistant by his side, as Radio 2 continues to explore the enduring fascination with the famous time traveller. This second programme, Reverse The Polarity, considers what makes a perfect television adventure for The Doctor. It also considers what some have perceived as a renaissance in television science fiction and asks if fantasy shows are merely the invention of niche television marketing. |
