Summary of Anthony Head's storyline: William is the older brother of the title character. He appears briefly several times during the first episode.

In the beginning, he brings home two acquaintances to meet with his father. One of them is smitten with William's sister Emilie, who goes by the name Lillie, and pursues her until he discovers she is only 15. There are a few glimpses of William in a church scene later. Then we see William's wedding, but he and the bride are basically in the background while Lillie sets her sights on a guest who will become her husband.
