Gold Blend / Taster's Choice coffee commercialsTelevision commercial series (UK - Gold Blend) / (US - Taster's Choice) Role: Matthew (UK) / Michael (US)
Summary of Tony Head's storyline: Two neighbors meet when she runs out of coffee and appears at his door looking for some (coffee that is). The commercials follow the ups and downs of their relationship as they fall in love. Somehow, coffee always seems to be involved. Gold Blend (UK): The two characters are never given names in the Gold Blend commercials. They are named Matthew and Alexandra in the Love Over Gold novel based on the commercials. They meet when she runs out of coffee for a dinner party and shows up at her neighbor's door to ask if he has any. He loans her a jar amidst much flirtatious eye contact. The next day, he is having dinner with a woman when she shows up to return his jar of coffee. He doesn't invite her in because of his guest, but the flirting escalates. Some time later, he shows up late for a dinner party (just in time for coffee) only to see her there as another guest. He invites her out to dinner. They have this dinner at his place, but despite his not so subtle hint that she spend the night, she has to leave early in the morning for a business trip to Milan. At some point after her return, she is preparing to leave her flat while a male guest waits. He shows up and the mystery man answers the door but doesn't identify himself. This lead him to assume she has a new beau. The next day, they bump into each other at the lift with him carrying a suitcase. He informs her he is going out of town for a month. and he stopped by to tell her but she had a guest. She lets him know that was her brother. He is relieved, although the lift doors close before they can say anything more. He calls her from the airport to let her know he will be in New York and the name of the hotel where he will be staying. Sometime later, she is working late at her office when he shows up, apparently having left New York sooner than expected. He tells her he thought she might be joining him. When she tries to deny it, he picks up the Concorde ticket sitting on her desk. He then leans in for their first kiss. The next day, she calls him claiming that it will never work as they are too different. However, that night when he is in bed, she calls and says she needs to see him. When he answers his door, expecting to see her, it is instead a former girlfriend who just returned to town. The ex leaves the room, supposedly to make coffee. The doorbell rings again and this time it is her. She moves in to kiss him but the ex walks back out. The next day, they meet up in the building parking garage and he tries to explain to her what happened. But she is not in the mood to listen. She has a meeting with an Italian client who uses business as an excuse to invite her to dinner. During this dinner, he shows up at the restaurant and pulls her away pretending that she is pulling a scam on the client. Back at his place, she wonders why she lets him do that and he tells her he loves her. In the end, the two head off into the sunset happily together. Taster's Choice (US): He is named Michael in the Taster's Choice commercials, but she is still without a name. The story starts the same way for both sets of commercials. She borrows coffee from him and then returns it. They then meet again at a dinner party where he invites her to dinner. The story starts to diverge here. The mystery man who opens the door is her son, not her brother. The couple takes a trip to Paris. In the final installment, her ex-husband shows up. Unfortunately, the commercials were ended before the storyline was wrapped up. |
