Amelia and MichaelShort film Role: Michael Summary: An apparently wealthy couple is being driven through London in a car. The woman is putting on makeup but her attention is drawn to a motorcycle stopped next to them at a light. They do not speak to each other or look at each other until they arrive at their destination. The woman, Amelia, gets out after kissing her husband, Michael, good-bye. He remains in the car and drives on. After he is out of sight, Amelia takes off her wedding ring and hails a taxi to go somewhere else.. At work, Michael is on the phone making a dinner reservation for two, with champagne. When a co-worker, Francis, overhears and asks, Michael says that the reservation is for his anniversary. However, we later Amelia saying goodbye to him before he leaves for Milan. Michael kisses her good-bye and gives her flowers before kissing her again. Amelia arrives at a hospital to visit a patient. The patient is an unnamed man who was apparently seriously injured in an accident and cannot move or speak. Amelia looks at a picture of the two of them together on a motorcycle and refers to him as 'my love'. She is later seen signing papers and giving a doctor a payment for the patient's medical care. Michael arrives at the restaurant for his dinner and he meets with an attractive younger woman. Later, they are in a hotel room and the woman is getting dressed while Michael, in a robe, brushes his teeth. The woman leaves without saying anything further and starts counting money out in the hallway. Michael paces around the hotel room and tries to get comfortable on the bed. He cannot and ends up laying on the floor. The phone rings and it is Francis, who jokingly asks how Michael is enjoying Milan. He then reminds Michael that they have a meeting the next day. Michael arrives back home a few days later. He and Amelia each lie to the other about what they have done in the past few days. After Michael has left the room, Amelia goes to put away some papers he'd left on a table. As she places them in a drawer, she realizes that his passport is in there and he could not have been out of the country. The phone rings and Amelia some bad news. She goes to the hospital to discover that the man she had been visiting has died. She returns home, deeply upset. Michael, upon seeing her tears, misunderstands the reason for them and starts apologizing for his infidelity, assuring her it was only the one time. They embrace and he comforts her and says he is sorry. Just as in the opening, the movie ends with Amelia and Michael being driven some where in London. The are silent as before, however, this time, she ignores the motorcycle that pulls up next to them. |
